Beef demand ruffles turkey feathers
Quintuple helpings of champion local beef and lamb are ruffling the feathers of the traditional Christmas turkey at a West Yorkshire farm shop.
Keelham Hall Farm Shop, in Brighouse and Denholme Road, Thornton, Bradford, said it was experiencing unrivalled demand for some of the best meat in the county after it secured the champion and reserve champion prime cattle at the annual Christmas shows at Skipton and Otley Auction Marts, along with the champion prime lambs from Skipton.
"Our customers just can't seem to get enough of this top quality meat - it's even giving the Christmas turkey a good run for its money," said Keelham Hall's James Robertshaw, who remains confident supplies will be sufficient to meet the festive season rush.
He added: "We have really gone to town this year with a five-strong haul of champion and reserve champion prime beef cattle and lambs, bought specifically to cater for ever-growing demand from our customers - all 4,500 of them a week.
"We always go that extra mile to seek out hand-picked premium quality meat from local producers - not just at Christmas, but throughout the year."
Jeremy Eaton, general manager at Skipton Auction Mart, said: "The livestock market gives the retail butcher the chance to select the best from the area, backed by the production story from the farmer who reared the stock.
"The beef and lamb purchased by Keelham Hall Farm Shop represents top quality selected stock from the farm of origin, sourced within a short distance of the shop - local produce at its best."
