Is your burger the best?
The annual Beefburger Challenge run by the English Beef and Lamb Executive (EBLEX) is still open to butchers, caterers and manufacturers throughout the country if they think they make Britain's best.
Foodservice project manager, Hugh Judd, said: "The closing date for entries is fast approaching (Friday 22 June) and with £5,000 publicity prize fund and the prestigious title of 'England's Best Beefburger' up for grabs, entrants have been quick to ensure their applications reach us in plenty of time this year."
The competition has three categories and a winner will be selected from each of the following: Best Butcher's Beefburger, Best Caterer's Beefburger and Best Manufacturer's Beefburger. Butchers and caterers in England can only submit entries if they make and sell beefburgers from their premises. Manufacturers must make and supply beefburgers to retailers or to the foodservice sectors.
All entrants in the first round will be paper judged by a panel of experts and shortlisted entrants will be contacted and asked to forward four samples of their beefburger to be tasted by a panel of experts.
Three finalists in each category will then be judged to establish an overall winner. Full competition details and entry forms can be found by logging onto the website www.englandsbestburger.co.uk
