Oz visit for Dunbia
Dunbia Llanybydder hosted a delegation from the Australian Sheep Industry on the UK leg of their European tour.
Leaders from Meat and Livestock Australia and The Australian Sheep Council, visited the factory as part of their fact finding tour regarding the European sheep industry.
The delegation visited a number of farms in the Marches region in England prior to their arrival at Llanybydder for a factory visit before heading off to visit sheep farms in the South-West of France.
Anthony Davies, factory manager at Dunbia (Llanybydder), who hosted the guided tour of the factory, said: "We discussed the various issues and ongoing developmental areas which affect the red meat industry in the UK and Australia.
"An example of this is the relatively new technology of visual imaging of lamb carcasses which already has a foothold in Australia and is being well received by producers, whereas, here in Wales, we are still awaiting results from the trials which have been conducted."
Other topical discussion points were the differences between machinery used in Wales and Australia, requirements of major customers within the two countries and the various traceability and marketing structures in place on the UK mainland for both the conventional and organic lamb markets.
