Stolen meat recovered

A lorry-load of meat stolen from an industrial estate in North Shropshire has been found by police.

The trailer full of meat was found in the Merseyside area after the raid in the early hours of 11 December. Thieves handcuffed a security guard during the raid at Wem industrial estate and stole a red Daf tractor with a trailer full of meat. The guard was found four hours later, shaken but not seriously hurt.

The tractor unit used during the raid was also found abandoned, and acting detective sergeant Mark Dingley said inquiries were continuing: "We believe the thieves were in the locality for sometime before they actually approached the security guard. It is quite likely they were in the area for several hours, from around 10pm on Sunday, and if anyone saw anything which may be connected to this crime, then please do call us," he said.
