Indian summer pushes up sales of cold meats

 - Published:  24 October, 2006

Supermarket Waitrose has reported sales of cold meats are up 18% on this time last year.

Talking to the Daily Telegraph, the supermarket group said the rise in sales was down to the unseasonably mild weather. A spokesperson for Waitrose commented: "The mild weather has certainly been reflected in people's shopping habits. Customers are clearly enjoying the long Indian summer and the food they are eating is more typical of the warmer months than autumn."

The group also reported rises in sales of ice cream, feta cheese and sushi.
