Traffic up for BPEX
Pig chiefs are celebrating after visitors to the BPEX website doubled in a year.
The BPEX site, www.bpex.org.uk, was averaging more than 20,000 visitors a month over the last financial year, up from 13,000 a month the previous year, a rise of 56%.
It was launched in October 2003 when there were 759 visitors and by last month (Mar) this had risen to 25,637.
The site offers new, rapid and efficient ways of distributing information with documents and reports to download along with a great deal of technical information aimed at helping producers improve efficiency and productivity.
These give producers the chance to read the latest on-screen, download to study later or print out to keep as a constant reference.
According to BPEX, the most popular downloads during the last financial year were Meat Quality Terms (13,744 downloads), an Export Report on Romania (6,193), an Analysis of Pork Imports (1,494) and a presentation by chief executive Mick Sloyan from the annual Outlook Conference (1,436).
Sloyan said: "The growing importance of websites and electronic information can't be overstated and this is proved by the traffic on our website.
"It is also a tribute to the amount of hard work that goes on behind the scenes making sure the website is constantly kept up to date.
"This sort of thing will grow in importance as more and more people turn to the web for information and help of all sorts."
