Better returns for beef at York event

Askham Bryan College, York, is to host a special Beef Demonstration Day with the EBLEX Beef Better Returns Programme (Beef BRP) on Tuesday 1 May.

Beef producers will be able to attend the hands-on workshops and demonstrations and take away top tips to implement back on the farm.

"This event presents beef producers with an opportunity to look at two different aspects of improving production," said Netta de la Cour, Beef BRP project manager EBLEX.

"Better returns can be achieved simply by choosing a market to focus, target breeding and production at that market, and selecting the appropriate stock at the optimum time to get the best price."

The day will include a Selection for Slaughter Workshop with Steve Powdrill for EBLEX. This will be a practical demonstration on the handling points of a beef animal, how to assess fat level and conformation and judge readiness for slaughter.

The session will also provide an opportunity to look at the requirements of different markets (butchers, exports and supermarkets).
