Organic meat and poultry producers are being urged to enter the Soil Association's annual Food Awards.

Celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall will be one of the judges handing out more than 50 awards, including Highland Spring Local Food Initiative of the Year and the Organic Trophy, to producers of top quality organic food.

Fearnley-Whittingstall said: "For the last awards, there were over 900 entries for some of the most delicious food ever produced, including Brown Cow Organics mouth-watering beef and Well Hung Meat's stunning pork. My taste buds are ready, roll on judging day."

The deadline for entry forms is April 28, with the awards ceremony taking place on September 1. For details on how to enter and an entry form, go to www.soilassociation.org/foodawards. Producers who aren't Soil Association licensees are welcome to enter.

Patrick Holden, director of the Soil Association, added: "The organic movement is at a tremendously exciting phase. We have reached a tipping point where millions of people are committing to organic food and taking part in the organic revolution. The Organic Food Awards are a celebration and expression of this, ensuring the integrity and quality of organic food is protected and promoted."
