Strike at Grampian goes ahead
The Transport and General Workers Union this morning confirmed that strike action at Grampian Foods has started.
The Transport and General Workers Union this morning confirmed that strike action at Grampian Foods has started at Cambuslang near Glasgow, Coupar Angus in Perthshire, Fairview near Edinburgh, Llangefni on Anglesey and Wiveliscombe in Somerset as well as the Grampian owned Welsh Country Foods on Anglesey.
A spokesman for the T&G said: "All the early indications are that the strikes, which are over pay, pensions and parity for agency staff, are being well supported by the T&G members. Nearly 1,400 union members are involved across these sites in total."
Planned action at the feed mill at Stoke Ferry in Norfolk was called off late yesterday evening after T&G members supported further talks with the local management.
The other sites at Eye and Haverhill in Suffolk, Witham in Essex, Sandycroft on Deeside, and Craven Arms in Shropshire are all still engaged in the local talks over pay.
A spokesman for Grampian Country Food Group said the company was disappointed that the Transport and General Workers Union had taken industrial action at a number of its sites. "Discussions continue to take place between our local management teams and the Union's local representatives to reach a resolution."
He added: "We are confident that throughout this process the impact on our business will be minimal and will be managed without any disruption to the supply of our products to our customer base."
Grampian said of the 12 sites threatening strike action, six had postponed the action. "Sites where strike action had gone ahead had a mixed response from workers," said a spokesman for Grampian.
