Butchers live and let grill
Wilsons of Crossgates in Leeds is reeling from the success of a promotional day featuring the new Raps "Licensed to Grill" burger range.
John Green, of Wilsons said the pressure was on when he and brother Andrew realised that their entire stock was almost sold out at about 12.15pm.
"But a huge effort from the lads in the back with a bit of help from the Sheerline burger attachment managed to get things back on track with 2,000 burgers sold in the day and an extra 200 customers served," he said.
The promotion was supported by butcher's sundries supplier, W.R Wrights from Liverpool. It supplied the first prize of a set of knives for the shop's free draw as well as providing staff, Steve Sefton and Rob Perry, to cook the burgers outside the shop and give away samples.
John said: "In the shop we sold 10 of the new burgers for £5.00 (a saving of £2). If customers spent enough on these products, they also got a Licensed To Grill apron as worn by the staff in the shop."
To complete the day, Wilsons played 007 movie soundtracks.
