Bache collects MBE
A butcher who gave up his shop to train youngsters and went on to help develop the HACCP system has been honoured with an MBE for services to the meat industry.
Paul Bache, who now runs his own consultancy, worked for the MLC as a technical manager and oversaw the development of HACCP after the major food poisoning outbreak of 1998 in Scotland.
He started his working life as a retail butcher but in the 1980s he moved into training with the Institute of Meat Qualifications and witnessed the switch to NVQs.
Bache collected his MBE on 16 May and went to Buckingham Palace with his family. The award means a lot to him, Bache told MTJ: "It recognises what I've achieved. I love this industry and for me, it's a great honour. I don't think you could top it."
