Beefy's search for English heroes

 - Published:  06 March, 2007

Ian "Beefy" Botham is spearheading the hunt for heroic Englishmen and women to mark this year's St George's Day on 23 April.

With the backing of the English Beef and Lamb Executive (EBLEX), Botham is asking for nominations from the public to help him find 13 people from across the country who go out of their way to help in the community.

EBLEX has issued some special beef recipes, which can be found on www.stgeorgesheroes.co.uk, where 'hero' nominations can also be made.

Alternatively a dedicated hotline for hero suggestions has been set up on 020 7861 3129. The closing date for nominations is 5 April.

Botham said: "I believe St George's Day gives us a great opportunity to recognise and reward the people who help make this country great.

"That's why I am looking for those people across England who make your community a better place and who deserve to be celebrated for their contribution."

The winners will receive bursary prizes of £2,000 and the person nominating them wins a two-night luxury break for two in London, which includes a night at a medieval English banquet.
