David Grailey, chief executive of the Meat Training Council for the past seven years, is leaving to take up a post in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
In the New Year he will take up the post of chief executive of the Northern Council For Further Education (NCFE) based in Newcastle.
During his time at the MTC in Milton Keynes, Grailey helped set up Food and Drink Qualifications, which awards qualifications to the whole of the food and drink sector.
Bill Jermey, MTC's chairman, said: "David has spent seven years at the MTC during a period of great change in funding regimes, and has led the successful launch of Food and Drink Qualifications Limited which has built a wonderful reputation. We wish David well in his new role."
Grailey said: "I have greatly enjoyed my time at the Meat Training Council and have seen many changes here. The team at Meat Training Council have done an excellent job on behalf of the industry.
