Roberts to remain as chairman of HCC
Rees Roberts will not stand down as chairman of Hybu Cig Cymru/Meat Promotion Wales (HCC), as announced back at the Royal Welsh Show in July.
The news came at the organisation's conference yesterday (9th November), where Roberts told delegates that, 'at the request of the Board of Directors' he would be staying on probably at least until April 2007.
Back in July the Welsh Assembly Minister for Environment Planning and the Countryside, Carwyn Jones, announced plans that he was to retain HCC as a separate meat promotion body within the new structure of the UK agricultural and horticultural levy boards being introduced in April 2008, where it was also announced that Roberts would step down as chairman at the Winter Fair, later this month. However, the board of directors at HHC have since agreed that Roberts should stay on to 'facilitate the changeover and pave the way for a new chairman to be elected'.
All the HCC directors will also remain in place until the complete handover takes place.
A full report on the HCC conference will be published in the next issue of MTJ.
