Sharp Interpack, one of the UK 's leading suppliers of rigid plastics trays for food packaging applications, has acquired Rexam's Yate division for an undisclosed sum.

Rexam's Bristol-based business is a plastics thermoforming and extrusion operation, and supplies packaging materials to the poultry sector among others.

The acquisition follows Sharp Interpack's restructuring of its two UK sites in Somerset and Kent. £6.5m has already been invested at the Somerset site transforming it into the most modern thermoforming operation in Europe, the company claimed

Sharp Interpack managing director, Declan O'Sullivan, said: "This is a brilliant strategic opportunity, the Yate business is an excellent fit."
