Roberts to step down

Rees Roberts, chairman of HCC, has announced he is to step down from December.

In a statement, Roberts said: "I would like to let it be known that it is my intention to formally retire from the position of chairman at the annual meeting, to take place in December of this year.

"In the past three years, I have been proud and privileged to oversee the development of the fledgling organisation and to help steer its growth into a strong and efficient, internationally-respected body, one which I believe has matched the ambitious aspirations of its levy payers.

"It would not have been possible without all parties pulling together for the greater good of the industry in this period; with this in mind, I was especially pleased to receive a food industry Personality Of The Year award last year, as it recognised the sterling work and dedication of HCC's staff and supporters.

He added: "Finally, I would like to thank my fellow board members and both farming unions for their support in the last three years. I believe that I leave HCC in a strong position to face the challenges of the future and that the farmers of Wales at last have a body that assists them, one which brands and markets on their behalf with the same high level of quality and dedication as they each put into the production process."

HCC said the position of chairman would now be considered at the next HCC board meeting in September.
