Get involved in skills boost drive, CEOs are urged

CHIEF EXECUTIVES should get more involved in the nation's drive to boost skills, and set aside fears that working for the greater good helps competitors, said food and drink sector skills chief Paul Wilkinson.

As chairman of Improve, the food and drink sector skills council, and a board member for the Skills for Business network of 25 sector skills councils, Wilkinson was speaking at the annual dinner at the British Chambers of Commerce.

Wilkinson said that if the UK is to remain competitive globally, chief executives needed to assume responsibility for ensuring that their businesses contributed to the development of better training for their industry.
