Obituary - Mike Attenborough
Mike Attenborough, technical director for the Meat and Livestock Commission (MLC) for more than 10 years, has died aged 55, after a short illness at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.
A graduate microbiologist from Bristol University, he had a postgraduate Masters degree in malting and brewing science from Birmingham. His work at MLC included responsibility for the industry's research programme to develop new products, processes and technologies to yield competitive advantage and also using science and technology to defend the red meat industry.
MLC director general, Kevin Roberts, said: "Mike was highly respected throughout the industry and was a valued and trusted friend and colleague."
Mike spent virtually the whole of his working career in the food and allied industries. Prior to joining MLC this involved 17 years working on the design and construction of food manufacturing plants around the world. He is survived by wife, Bronwen, two daughters, a son and one grandchild.
