QMS costs for Walker trial refused
Quality Meat Scotland has had its application for costs incurred in fighting its former chairman Jim Walker's claim of unfair dismissal refused.
This is in spite of Walker being advised last October he would not be able to pursue his claim of being "wrongly sacked" from his position the previous year.
Walker was informed of his dismissal in 2005 as he boarded a plane to attend a trade fair on behalf of QMS.
The tribunal chairman agreed with QMS's argument at the pre employment tribunal that because Walker was a consultant, not an employee, he could not bring about a case as he was not covered by the same regulations. But he has refused the QMS application for costs.
QMS chairman Donald Biggar said: "QMS has discharged its obligation in terms of levy payers' funds. We are content that the process initiated by the former chairman has now concluded."
