Sudan Dye

 - Published:  10 March, 2006

MORE PROSECUTIONS for the illegal use of Sudan I dye in food could follow from ongoing investigations by several local authorities in the alleged misuse in food and ingredients, says the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

It is providing technical backup while investigators prepare evidence. Impetus for carrying out the work comes from Essex County Council's successful prosecution of a food ingredients company, which resulted in a fine of £2,000 and costs of £3,000, awarded against the company.
