Monks face further slaughter

Despite a long legal battle to save Shambo, the bull was eventually slaughtered after testing positive for bovine TB.

Farmers and politicians are calling for the immediate slaughter of two other animals, believed to be a Jersey cross bull and a water buffalo, both of which gave inconclusive skin tests for bovine TB.

Brynle Williams, Conservative rural affairs spokesman at the Welsh assembly, said decisive action was vital, but assembly officials were dragging their feet over the fate of possible cases at Skanda Vale.

A Welsh Assembly spokesman said the TB test results would be presented to the monks early this week and any necessary appropriate action taken swiftly.

Farming leaders said they hoped any further removal of animals would be completed quickly, however, a spokesman for Skanda Vale said the community's stance remained the same.
