Export delay for FMD hit industry

European Union vets have told the UK the ban will not be lifted until at least after that date, putting paid to the industry's hopes that the EU would adopt a regionalised approach to lifting the ban, enabling Scotland and Wales to resume exports.

Northern Ireland continues to be exempt from the ban, but the rest of the UK will continue to be considered a "high-risk" zone for FMD. The situation is expected to be reviewed at a meeting on 23 August, and the industry is hopeful for a lifting of the ban for some regions by 25 August.
