EU makes Thai poultry deal

 - Published:  08 December, 2006

The European Commission has now struck a deal with Thailand, increasing its previously disputed rights to export salted poultry meat and cooked chicken into the EU, solving a long-running World Trade Organisation battle.

Thai exporters get an allocation of 92,610t of a general 264,245t salted poultry meat quota at 15.4% duty, and for quantities above this, at E1,300/t duty. For cooked chicken meat, Thailand can fill 160,033t of a 230,453t 10.9% tariff quota, with additional amounts attracting E1,024/t duty, said Brussels.
