Williams whips up Welsh meat fervour

Brynle Williams, a farmer based in North Wales, made the comments after attending a 'Battle for the Dragon' presentation dinner at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru, Rhos on Sea.

The first ever Battle for the Dragon contest, between the Welsh National Culinary Team and equivalent teams from Germany and France, was the showpiece event of the three-day Welsh International Culinary Championships organised by the Welsh Culinary Association.

Mr Williams said: "Five years ago, it would have been difficult to convince me, as a farmer, of the value of the competition and presentation dinner, but having seen the power of the public relations campaign, I'd say that it's money well spent on an exciting project."

Dewi Williams, of the Welsh Development Agency, said: "The event achieves our objective of raising the profile of the Welsh culinary skills and food. The Welsh National Culinary Team is now ranked seventh in the world and that is a tremendous achievement."

Peter Jackson, Welsh Culinary Association chairman said: "Members of the Welsh National Culinary Team are serious about their role as ambassadors the nation's rich array of quality food products, including Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef, which are world beaters."
