Smithfield consolidates in the UK
Smithfield Foods is consolidating its UK operations following the recent joint venture acquisition of Sara Lee' European Meat production assets in late 2006.
The company said it would be uniting the two operation's sales platforms in the UK.
The combined business will continue as Smithfield Foods Ltd and offer a comprehensive range of processed and fresh meat products including branded authentic deli, premium cooked sliced meats, paté and farm assured fresh pork, chicken and turkey. Revenues for fiscal 2008 are anticipated to be about £60m.
"The opportunity to combine Inter Food Services and Smithfield Foods Ltd is unique, with little or no overlap in customers or products," said John Allton Jones, CEO Smithfield Foods.
"This furthers our strategy of adding value to our European production sites by bringing the very best meat brands and products to Europe's most sophisticated market; the UK.
"We will continue to consolidate all of our direct and indirect distribution channels to allow us to maximise sales and marketing opportunities and more fully serve the needs of our retail and foodservice customers," added Allton Jones.
