Grampian Country Food Group has announced it is to withdraw from the frozen chicken market. The Group said it is keen to minimise redundancies and will try to find employment for the 111 people who work at the company's Bucksburn facility, either within the Group or with other local companies.

Any redundancies that do have to be made will be after 5 January 2007.

James Dallas, regional managing director of Grampian, said: "The team at Bucksburn have worked hard to make a success of the business, however sales within the frozen whole bird market have been declining at a greater rate year on year and combined with the increased cost of production the company feels that it must discontinue frozen chicken production and explore other alternatives for the site.

"We regret the need for this change announced today and have informed our employees and their representatives of our commitment to consult with them."
