Meat loses out in frozen awards

Sagegreen Consulting Ltd and Lutosa (UK) Ltd took top honours for their 'Barilla girasole di gorgonzola' and 'Brakes gratin dauphinois' respectively.

Meat products scored highly in other categories however. Bar and Restaurant Foods Ltd won gold for their 'Chicken liver pate with Scottish heather honey' in the Best New Starter Product, and Best New Main Course -Traditional Style Cuisine- went to Brakes for their 'British steak and kidney suet pudding'.

Gold in the Best New Main Product - International Cuisine category went to Loxton's 'Chicken pakora masala'. This dish was particularly praised by the catering judges, who commended it as a "great idea".

The BFFF Awards are the ultimate accolade in frozen food, designed to reward and recognise the advancement of quality and product development in frozen foods which have taken place over the last few years.

Innovative ideas combined with preperation functionality mean that the frozen food sector of the foodservice market continues to grow and is now worth some £2bn.

A spokesperson for the BFFF said: "Backed by a deeper understanding of the catering market, frozen foods continue to make significant progress in the foodservice sector as the end-users demand enhanced quality, recipe authenticity and significant labour savings in the kitchen."
