Beef tour for Belgians

 - Published:  15 May, 2007

A group of award-winning Belgian lady chefs got the inside story on the production of prime quality Angus beef on a two-day tour of the Lake District hosted by EBLEX.

Group members, who all serve beef in their own establishments, toured a farm, a cutting and packing plant and a regional supermarket to trace the beef from field to retail shelf.

The group is among several from all over Europe who will visit the country over the next few months as EBLEX steps up its drive to help the industry export more beef.

Clive Brown, EBLEX regional manager for the West of England, said: "Our visiting chefs had the chance to see beef being produced in the idyllic environment of the Lake District and our aim is they will want to use the same quality meat in their own restaurants in Belgium.

"They were quite impressed by what they saw - particularly the quality of the beef and the beauty of the countryside."
