A Scottish pie manufacturer is celebrating after winning a new grant to expand its operations.

Simple Simon's Perfect Pies were awarded the business venture and property improvement grant from the Lanarkshire Business Venture Fund.

The money will allow Bernard Alessi, managing director of Simple Simon's Pies, to make improvements to his factory, expanding the kitchen to double the size in order to accommodate ever-increasing sales.

Chris Bell, Programme Manager from South Lanarkshire Council, said: "Simple Simon's Perfect Pies expansion plans are excellent news for the rural economy of South Lanarkshire. We are delighted to be assisting this ambitious growth strategy and look forward to the new facility operating to full capacity."

The company has recently branched out from pies and has now launched a range of casseroles, under the brand Simple Simon's Country Casseroles, using the fillings from its pies.

Alessi said: "This is great news for the company as we had reached capacity and with the launch of our new range of Simple Simon's Country Casseroles, we had to expand in order to meet demand. The assistance granted by the Lanarkshire Business Venture Fund has enabled us to expand sooner than would otherwise have been possible and is much appreciated."

Both the pies and casseroles are made with beef and pork from Blackmount Organics.
