Fifth quarter opportunities untapped
Untapped opportunities for fifth-quarter material at home and abroad have been presented at a series of seminars by EBLEX.
Dr Phil Hadley, EBLEX regional manager and project co-ordinator, oversaw a range of presentations across three days from leading industry figures.
Professor Jim Scudamore covered the improved handling of edible co-products and the potential to redirect these in the food chain, while the Meat Hygiene Service provided guidance on reducing the level of damage to offal arising during dressing and inspection processes, to meet export specifications, while conforming to legislative requirements.
Jean Pierre Garnier, export manager for EBLEX, presented a report on the world fifth-quarter market.
Dr Hadley said he was pleased with interest shown in the seminars. "It was very encouraging to hear positive feedback from those who attended."
He added: "However, while it was agreed that many positive steps have been taken to move the market forward, the industry must continue to work together to revitalise returns and improve profitability."
