Minister praises Scotch meat industry
Scotland´s minister for the environment Michael Russell congratulated the Scottish red meat sector for its show of strength at the Anuga food fair in Cologne, Germany.
Speaking at a reception on the QMS stand during last week's show, Russell paid tribute to the eleven red meat companies who have travelled to Germany with a view to rebuilding export trade following the lifting of restrictions.
He said: "I was very impressed by the QMS stand at the ANUGA food fair and what really struck me was the intense global competition Scotland faces in the food and, in particular, meat industry. We can compete in the world market thanks to the quality and reputation of our produce and the Scottish Government is committed to helping support our food industry in whatever way we can to promote this vital sector.
"Now the meat export markets have resumed, albeit subject to strict conditions, we can look forward to the future and providing a continuity of supply for our loyal customers. I would like to see more Scottish companies at ANUGA and similar events in future to fly the flag for Scotland by showcasing quality Scottish produce on the world stage."
