NI fly the flag

Meat exporters from across Northern Ireland were flying the flag in Germany last week at the Anuga food fair.

The Livestock and Meat Commission hosted a stand at the show in Cologne last week.

Speaking at the event, Owen Brennan, LMC chairman, said, "It is very encouraging to see so many representatives from the Northern Ireland industry flying the flag for our high quality beef and lamb on the world market. This is the first time we have been in Germany since the beef ban was lifted in May 2006.

"We are here competing with the rest of the world and I certainly believe our product can compete for the premium markets in Europe. I would like to thank Minister Gildernew for lending her support to our export strategy and I am confident will lead to new business opportunities which is of critical importance to our industry."

Throughout the show Northern Ireland meat processing companies used the facilities on the stand to meet with current overseas customers as well as potential importers.

Prime cuts of Northern Ireland beef and lamb were on display and these were also sampled by many international buyers.
