Youngest director heads up Royal show

 - Published:  11 April, 2007

The team running this year's Royal Show has welcomed the appointment of the show's youngest-ever honorary show director, Mark Spencer, 37, from Mapperley Plains, Nottinghamshire.

Spencer, the show's 21st honorary show director, farms with his father on land purchased by his grandfather in 1939 now on the urban fringe of Nottingham.

The farm's 60 year dairy heritage gave way to retailing direct from the farm with 25 butchery, bakery and general sales staff now selling home-reared beef and free-range eggs as well as potatoes, field vegetables and fruit.

Spencer is a county and district councillor, school governor and a former chairman of the National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs where he also chaired the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee.

Executive show director, Peter Stovold, said he and his team were looking forward to delivering a "cracking show" in July at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire and thanked existing and new team members for their commitment to showcase the very best of farming, food and rural life.
