Royal Show seeks the bigger picture
The Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE) is to consult with farmers and members of rural communities in an exercise designed to improve business opportunities.
Thomas Wheatley-Hubbard, chairman of the RASE said: "For over 160 years, the Society has acted as the independent voice and facilitator for the agricultural and rural sector."
Using feedback from the industry-wide consultation, the Society will ensure it continues to deliver a first-class programme of shows, events and other communication activities. The Society will aim to encourage the uptake and application of good science, promote good business practice, emphasise sustainability and will promote sense of pride in the English rural economy.
As part of this the Royal Show and linked technical farming events are to be under direct management by the Society. The two-year partnership with Haymarket Exhibitions has been dissolved.
Wheatley-Hubbard said: "The Royal Show, confirmed for 2007 as taking place from Sunday 1 July to Wednesday 4 July, has in recent years changed with the industry to become the platform best-placed to promote and debate new opportunities in agriculture and the rural community.
"But it should be remembered that the 'Royal' and its embedded conference programme is just one part of a range of activities the Society carries out in serving the sector. We are keen for everyone in the industry to get involved and help us shape the future. Our experience of working with partner organisations and our ability to draw together diverse views and opinions puts us in the ideal position to help steer the agricultural sector towards a successful future," he concluded.
