Busy day for HCC at Cibus exhibition

 - Published:  12 May, 2006

The Hybu Cig Cymru/Meat Promotion Stand was a hive of activity at CIBUS in Milan. Three themes underpinned its presence.

First was the promotion of the Protected Geographical Indicator (PGI) status of Welsh lamb. Second was the maintenance of contacts with the Italian supermarkets and press. Third, according to Stewart Pope, HCC's marketing manager, Welsh beef was also being promoted but in a quieter, calmer way so that it also gains PGI status.

"We want to slipstream beef after we've had meetings and started negotiations with wholesalers who supply the trade and supermarkets." Milanese chef Carlo Cracco from Cracco Peck, a Michelin starred establishment, has been drafted by in HCC to promote Welsh meat. At the show he prepared meat dishes which were sampled by Defra Minister Lord Bach (2nd left). He is joined by Italian rugby players, internationals Festuccia and Galon and Consul General Peter Carter.
