Jess in time

Allan Jess was appointed President of the Scottish Association of Meat Wholesalers Association last Saturday, at the SAMW annual conference in Edinburgh

. Jess is a director of A P Jess which comprises a wholesale meat business in Paisley, an abattoir and specialist incineration facility in Brechin and a manufacturing facility in Greenock, Glasgow.

Jess said he was looking forward to reducing the amount of red tape which he felt was strangling the industry.

Jess added that SAMW members were facing a number of challenges such as high costs of tallow removal as waste. "But we are optimistic that we will meet these challenges - we are a resilient industry," he insisted.

SAMW junior vice-president Alan Craig, general manager of ABP (Scotland) in Perth, was elected vice-president.

Alan McNaughton of McIntosh Donald, Portlethen, Aberdeen, was voted junior vice-president.
