BDCI realises £100k under outgoing Levy
Funds of more than £100,000 have been raised for the meat trades' charity, the Butchers' and Drovers' Charitable Institution, under the festival chairmanship of Miles Levy.
The figure was announced by acting BDCI president, Kathleen Dennis at the charity's annual lunch at Butchers' Hall, London.
Mr Levy, who is managing director of Oakfield Foods, completed his year with the lunch. ABP chief executive Richard Cracknell now takes up the fund raising reins.
Mr Levy told guests "Its been a most memorable year and I shall never forget it." He said that seeing the range of work carried out by the charity, which helps members of the trade and their relatives who are in need, had been a humbling experience.
He thanked BDCI chairman Susan White, his predecessor as festival chairman Andrew Garvey, and secretary Roy Sully for their support during his year.
He said he was pleased to be handing on the role of festival chairman to a well known trade person and "larger than life character" Richard Cracknell. "I wish him every success in his year of office. He will have no problem taking up the challenge and in doing a wondeful job on behalf the BDCI."
Mr Cracknell thanked Mr Levy "for a job extremely well done." He added "I don't know how you fitted it all in."
He went on to pay tribute to the efficient organisation of the charity. "It's very good to be taking over a smooth running ship." He went on to mention that in taking on the fund raising role he was following in the footsteps of his friend and colleague, the late Ron Williams. "As for the year ahead it's more of the same."
President Doublas Noakes was unable to attend the lunch because of ill health.
The charity's main fund raising event of the year is again likely to be the festival dinner at the London Hilton in Park Lane on Friday 3 November. Anyone interested in sponsoring a part of the evening or donating an auction or raffle prize should contact the secretary, Roy Sully, at Butchers' Hall.
