MacDuff show a success
Jim Warnock of Dreva Farm, Biggar has won the 2007 MacDuff carcase show with a Charolais cross heifer weighing 330 kgs and grading u4l and which sold to Keith Mulford of Dennis of Bexley for £3.80 per kilo, totalling £1254.
The reserve champion from J.Spence & Sons was also a Charolais cross weighing 340kgs. It sold at £3.70 per kilo (£1258) to the judge, Mr. Richard Hawes of Watermoor Meats, Cirencester.
Hawes commented on the excellent quality of carcases well suited to his fellow Q Guild members for their independent retail shops.
In the Scottish Texel Sheep Breeders Club show, run concurrently, at PR Duff's plant at Wishaw abattoir, the champion carcase, from J&J Frame of High Dyke, Strathaven, made £310 again to Dennis of Bexley, with the reserve from Robert Hamilton, High Crewburn, Strathaven making £310 to the Hepburns of Shenfield, Essex.
In the roasting show the champion pair from Steve Wilson of Westerhill Farm, Bishopbriggs, made £16.10 per kilo, a record, to David Lishman of Ilkley with the reserve pair from Jim Brown, Gaindykehead, Airdrie, making £11.60 to the Hepburns of Shenfield.
