Give your shop windows a coat of shatter-resistant 'armor'

A European exhibition of security equipment this October showcased a simple product which independent retailers can use to protect themselves against vandalism and burglary.

Armorcoat window films were on show for the first time at this year's Milipol 2007, a Paris-based exhibition which is aimed at businesses interested in improving the security of their premises.

The Armorcoat window films, which are made by Bakaert Specialized Films, make windows more difficult to shatter. The makers claim this helps eliminate a burglar's easiest route into a property: via a broken window.

When Armorcoat is applied to the glass, the window becomes more difficult to break. If it is broken, the safety film firmly holds the glass parts together.

Armorcoat is available in several thicknesses and safety levels. The films are colourless, undetectable and non-reflective so they are virtually invisible on windows. The resilient layers of high-tensile polyester, aggressive adhesives, ultraviolet inhibitors and scratch-resistant coatings are even resistant to events as extreme as bomb blasts or earthquakes, with thicker films offering greater protection.

In addition to glass retention, the window films also balance temperatures, minimise glare, and help preserve furnishings and merchandise.
