Thermoformer makes a point of keeping it clean
Multivac drew a strong crowd to its stand at IFFA, with demonstrations of its new Clean in Place (CIP) technology on its latest products. Sandy Taylor, MD of Multivac UK, said the system automatically cleans the inside of its new gene-ration of thermoforming packaging equipment, the R535, offering improved hygiene conditions and reduced labour costs.
"It's great for extremely high risk products, such as cooked meats," he added. "This is the first time we've shown it and the machines will be on sale by the end of the year."
Also on display was the company's new R550 LipFORM thermoformer. The machine produces packages with a rolled edge, just like a pre-fabricated tray, said Taylor, combining the efficiency and low packaging costs of the thermoforming process with the look and feel of preformed trays. "You can make your own trays rather than buy them in," said Taylor.
The storage and stacking of trays is also eliminated, which simplifies handling and saves space.
