Staff to keep jobs after meat plant fire

 - Published:  14 August, 2007

All 280 workers at the meat factory which was devastated by fire on Sunday will keep their jobs.

Following preliminary negotiations with workers and union officials yesterday afternoon (13 Aug), Glanbia has said it will redeploy all staff employed at the factory in Edenderry, Co. Offlay, to it's processing plant in Roscrea, Co. Tipperary.

The company has also said it will reinstall its pig processing plant operation at Edenderry.

"Our priority is to ensure that the employees and staff can get back into some kind of work as soon as possible," said Jim Hanley, CEO of Glanbia Meats

"When we can establish that and can fully support our customers, we will look at what we will be doing with the plant at Edenderry.

It is believed the fire was accidental, possibly as a result of an electrical fault.
