BOC homes in on leaks

BOC Refrigerants is to launch a product for detecting fluorinated gas leaks, to help the refrigeration industry meet new European rules. The f-gas regulations state leaky fridges will no longer be able to be topped up. From 4 July, operators will have to repair leaks quickly and effectively, log all leak repair work and check for new leaks regularly.

The new BOC product features a mix of oxygen-free nitrogen and helium. It has a small molecular composition and, when used under pressure in the system, is capable of detecting very small leaks.

Logan Colbeck, BOC Refrigerants product manager, said: "An effective means of leak detection is crucial. Combining nitrogen and helium in one package will allow BOC customers to quickly locate refrigerant leaks."
