Cracking the code with Markem
Markem, the supplier of coding and marking systems, has recently done a deal to supply ready-meal manufacturer Loxton Foods with new equipment to improve the print and application of labels.
Loxton had previously printed labels on a desktop system and operators then applied the labels by hand. Operators also had to change the label information manually for over 150 different batches of products.
Markem installed a Cimjet 342 print-and-apply corner wrap labeller. The model holds all label designs in its memory, prints the designs onto the labels by thermal transfer and accurately applies them. The overall productivity of the line has been improved, said Markem.
The Cimjet 342 works by feeding the label into the path of the oncoming box. It applies part of the label to the front edge of the outer case and, using a spring-mounted roller, wraps the rest of the label around the adjacent side.
