NBA loses new chief executive

The NBA said its newly appointed chief executive, Stuart Roberts, has turned down the role and been appointed to the role of director within the BMPA, in succession to Maurice McCartney, who stepped down from the position at the end of May.

Robert Forster, who is due to retire from the chief executive role with the NBA on August 7, said: "We'd confirmed Stuart's appointment and were looking forward to having him, but we were told on Monday we had been gazumped by the BMPA, and we can only speculate on the reasons."

A statement from the BMPA said it was unable to make any announcement about the position of director at the moment. An announcement is expected next week, however.

Roberts is due to leave his job at DEFRA, where he is currently working on cost and responsibility sharing, on July 6. He had previously worked on the development of the stem testing regime.

Forster said they are now again looking for someone for the NBA's chief executive role and would be interested in hearing from any potential candidates.
