Could THIS be the answer to energy efficiency in fridges?

 - Published:  01 August, 2006

Dramatic claims have been made for an energy reduction filter for fridges that could save money as well as the environment.

Sorbite, the natural raw mineral in the filter, is found in rock form in the desert. Now, Humitech has turned it into filters, which reduce energy consumption and keep food fresher for longer.

According to Humitech, the filters work by absorbing moisture and controlling humidity in fridges. They also absorb air-borne bacteria and stop meat drying out. It is environmentally friendly and the mineral lasts forever, according to Humitech.

Several major hotel chains have invested in the filters and tests show a 16% reduction in energy costs once the filters are in place.
