A factory manager who has spent a lifetime in the meat industry is to retire today [Friday] after 45 years.

Terry Ellam, factory manager at Cranswick Country Foods in Hull, started working in the meat industry in 1962 and has worked for many major meat companies throughout his career.

Popular with colleagues and customers, Ellam received praise from Cranswick's managing director Adam Couch, who described his skill with meat as "unrivalled" in all species. Most recently, however, he has been heavily involved in the pig sector.

"He is extremely well-respected for his abilities in butchering and staff management and is also very well-liked among the customer base for his considerable knowledge," said Couch.

"Customers think the world of him, given his ability to deliver the products for which we've become well-respected in the business."
