BPM gains adVantage
British Premium Meats (BPM) has invested in a high-tech new traceability and weighing system for its new operations in Welwyn Garden City.
BPM, which supplies fresh and cooked meats to the catering trade throughout the Home Counties, has installed an 11-station
Vantage weighing and traceability system at its new purpose-built, 21,000sq ft factory.
The system, installed by Stevens Weighing Group, allows BPM to keep track of more than 600 product ranges, including red meat, poultry products and
fresh burgers.
Stuart Hunt, sales manager with Stevens, said: "BPM set a number of key goals it wanted to achieve for controlling the process at its new plant. These included improved meat traceability with a paperless audit trail, increased stock control and efficiency, improved labelling, reduction in admin time and
minimisation of waste and giveaway. The system also needed to be user-friendly, so that operators would readily adapt."
The system was installed to be compatible with the company's existing equipment and software to ensure everything was fully
integrated, from the factory floor to the back-office.
Rob Hutchinson, BPM partner, said the business was delighted with the new system: "We run a rapid turn-around operation, serving a large number of customers. We need to process orders quickly and accurately, including invoicing.
"We have a virtually paperless environment and can recall electronically stored traceability data on demand. This, together with minimum waste and accurate stock control, brings benefits
directly to the bottom line."
