Judges set to go

Retailers from all around the UK have entered this year's event in the hope of being declared the UK's best butcher's shop.

BPEX is one of the sponsors of the award, which it said recognises excellence in the independent sector. A spokesman added: "Quality is at the forefront of all BPEX activity and it recognises the importance of rewarding superb standards in retail. Butchers that offer quality produce, impressive customer service, innovation and best practice, or those who 'go the extra mile', deserve to be acknowledged as the finest in the country."

Other sponsors include QMS, under its Scotch Butchers Club banner, EBLEX, the Danish Bacon and Meat Council, Weddel Swift and Harmony Farm, Lucas Ingredients and HCC - Meat Promotion Wales and Bizerba.

Open to butchers from all over the UK, categories include:

n Scottish Butcher's Shop of the Year

n Northern Ireland Butcher's Shop of the Year

n Welsh Butcher's Shop of the Year

n Northern England Butcher's Shop of the Year

n Midlands & East Butcher's Shop of the Year

n Southern Butcher's Shop of the Year

n Farm Shop of the Year

An overall winner will be decided on 7 November at Claridges, London and named Butcher's Shop of the Year 2006.
