Evans on hand for Rawlings refit
Radio DJ Chris Evans was on hand to cut the ribbon and help Rawlings of Cranleigh celebrate the £150,000 refit of its Surrey butcher's shop. Evans, who was there with his wife Natasha, told MTJ: "I have been shopping here for my meat for five years now, as my mum lives just around the corner. A local butcher's shop is important for the community. Rawlings' butchers tell me what to do with meat in terms of cooking and serving suggestions."
Sides of beef from David Brown at Burnside of Dipple, Morayshire, were available for customers to purchase, as well a spit roast lamb from Trevor and Karen Telling's Bonhurst Farm in Bramley, to sample. Anthony Rowcliffe had a number of cheeses available for customer tastings.
Commenting on the event, Scotch Premier Meat managing director Raymond Wight (pictured with Evans) said: "Scotch Premier Meat is delighted to supply beef, lamb and pork from some of the best producers in Scotland to Robert Rawlings and his customers. Robert is a keen supporter of Scottish agriculture and is a regular buyer of champions at our shows. It is good to see a butcher expanding and responding to consumer needs using Scotch Premier products to help do so."
Robert Rawlings thanked shop-fitter Cordery Build and suppliers who contributed to the shop's refurbishment celebrations, as well as all his staff for working so hard. The centrepiece of the refit, which doubles the size of the shop, is a £5,500 custom-made reversible maple horseshoe-shaped butcher's block with a steel band.
