Further job cuts at Hendersons abattoir
A further 12 staff have been redundant at the Henderson abattoir in Linlithgow today by administrator Ernst & Young.
Only five of the original 72 staff are being kept on after the Henderson plant ceases production and moves to a care and maintenance basis.
Ernst & Young, which was appointed the administrator on 29 January by the company directors, said it was taking the property off the market after no acceptable offers were received.
Tom Burton, joint administrator at Ernst & Young, said: "The business has been trading at a loss which can't be sustained, and the care and maintenance move is to preserve the assets and reduce the costs.
"It is unfortunate that despite negotiation with interested parties no acceptable offers were received that reflected the value of the assets and could result in the successful sale of the business. We have taken the business off the market with a view to re-marketing a later date. Regretfully this means that we have had to make another 12 redundancies today, with five of the original 72 staff being kept on."
